4. Research guidelines of laboratory:

According to order №436 from 22.07.2008 “About opening National scientific shared laboratories” of Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan in NCB was founded National scientific shared laboratory of biotechnology.

The laboratory is functioning from 30th of March 2009 on the basis on National Center of Biotechnology.

The aim of laboratory is conducting genomic researches and introduction of new genetic tests in healthcare, environment control and agriculture systems.

The main tasks:

  • Rendering services to organization and scientists;
  • Developing of competitive biotechnology products;
  • Realization of scientific projects based on genomic technology;
  • professional training and development of scientific manpower.

Aim and tasks of laboratory are oriented on development of scientific direction of country – “Science about Life”.

From 29th July till 9th August on the basis of national laboratory was held summer school “Biotechnology for students”. 15 students (3-5 year) from different parts of Kazakhstan took part in it and 2 were of them from Kyrgyzstan.

Program of school includes more than 80 hours of lecture and practical training. Also tour into Nazarbayev University was organized.

National Scientific Shared laboratory of information and space technology

In November of 2009 by the initiative of the President and Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan was founded “National Scientific Shared laboratory of information and space technology” based in KazNTU for integration of science and higher education.

Primary goal of laboratory activities is providing research works on information and space technology by individuals of scientific and scientific-technical activity. Laboratory gives access to native and foreign scientists for conducting researches irrespective of department membership and ownership model of scientific organization, where they work on counting basis. Laboratory provides all available facilities on a contractual basis for scientist and specialist of research organizations and higher education institutes of our country and for foreign scientists, who are working on conducting of joint researches. Nowadays in laboratory computer cluster (supercomputer) was put into operation.

Jurisdiction
Laboratory is certified in the accreditation system of the Republic of Kazakhstan to meet ST RK ISO/IEC 17025-2007 “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories” as a testing laboratory;
Laboratory staff has 44 certificates including 11 foreign ones;
177 students, 34 postgraduates and 11 Ph.D. doctors had trainings in 2010-2012;
2 doctoral theses, 1 Ph.D. thesis, 2 master’s theses and 6 theses were defended on the basis of laboratory.

About laboratory

By the initiative of the President and Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan for integration of science and higher education and according to the Order №436 from 22.07.2008 «About appointment of scientific organizations (higher education institutes) for founding National scientific shared laboratories» KazNTU was chosen for organization of “National Scientific Shared laboratory of information and space technology” (NSSL IST). NSSL IST was founded in November of 2009 according to Order №624 from 25.11.2009. In June 2010 was held opening of NSSL IST and start of Computing cluster (Supercomputer).
For founding of laboratories the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan subsidized 400 million tenge to NSSL IST and 200 million tenge to Engineering profile laboratory (EPL), for the purpose of providing laboratory with modern equipment.
In addition KazNTU spent 500 million tenge from own assets for redecoration, creation of infrastructure, purchase of furniture, clerical aids and additional equipment.
NSSL IST is located on ground floor of the Kazakhstan-Korea research and education center for information and communication technologies of Kazakh National Technical University after K.I. Satpayev.

Main tasks of laboratory:

-providing realization of programs and projects in information and space guidelines of scientific and technology development;
-development of competitive scientific products and commercial technologies for world market;
-participation in international scientific and technological cooperation;
-training scientific manpower for priority scientific guidelines based on realization of projects with leading science centers of the world.

Tasks in information technology field:

-mathematical processing of large collections of data;
-solving of mathematical tasks of high complexity;
-researches in computer vision sphere;
-artificial intellect problems;
-grid-technology development;
-researches in the field of concurrent computing;
-researches in the field of virtualization.

Tasks in space technology field:

-processing of remote sensing data;
-developing facilities for space purposes;
-analysis and processing of data from space researches, oriented on remote sensing of territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan to solve ecological tasks;
-modelling systems for space instrument-making;

Prospects of NSSL IST development:

-setup and maintenance services of ANSYS package, which allows to solve wide range of physical tasks of computer engineering in different branches of industry;
-setup of GAUSSIAN software complex, which helps to solve chemical tasks demanding high-performance systems of data processing in the field of computational and quantum chemistry, molecular modelling, medical and pharmaceutical researches;
-setup of Leica ERDAS IMAGINE software package, which solves geographical, ecological, geological and military tasks, which need making of great amount of measuring and computing works;

“Nuclear technology and technologies of renewable energy” National Scientific Shared laboratory

According to order №472 from 11.08.2008 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan was founded National Scientific Shared laboratory in nuclear technology and technologies of renewable energy. A separate building with specialized premises was given to laboratory’s basic equipment. Workplaces in the laboratory were certified. (Area 820 m²).

Aim of laboratory: through developing fundamental and applied researches and training scientists and specialists provide scientific and personnel support of task realization of country’s industrial and innovative development.
Laboratory allows appreciably improve the quality of researches and theses, integrate science and education.

Structure of laboratory:

  • Laboratory of Nuclear Magnet Resonance spectroscopy;
  • Laboratory of applied and radiation physics;
  • Experimental-industrial area;
  • Planning and design department;
  • Laboratory of energy-saving and alternative energy.

Key research guidelines:
Research guidelines of laboratory are connected with priorities of science development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, they are approved by Higher Science and Technology Committee:

Research guidelines of NNLOT:

  • developing nanotechnology for getting metallic nanoclusters in amorphous diamond-like materials, which have nonlinear optical and electrical properties forward-looking for nano- and optoelectronics;
  • developing radiation nanotechnology for obtaining radiation-resistant materials for industry;
  • developing nanotechnology of getting silicon and gallium arsenide on the basis of amorphous phase recrystallization and creation of nano-porous surface in these materials, which will be promising in solar energy;
  • developing technology for making nano-sized carriers and thin-filmed heterostructures;
  • creation of nanostructural composite materials for metal-working and petroleum industries;
  • developing cryogenic nanotechnology for getting nanomaterials;
  • developing of plasma and plasma-chemical nanotechnologies;
  • working out mew technologies of making sorbents and nanotubes, which will be used as a source of electric energy;
  • creation of nano-biotechnology and nano-biocomplex for use in medicine, agriculture and ecology;
  • creation of theoretical basis of making nanomaterial with assigned properties and computer simulation of nanostructures;
  • creation of scientific basis of nanotechnological cycle of new nanostructural materials production for replacing imported materials;

Achievements:

17 PhD and 31 postgraduates are working on equipment of NNLOT.
Students, postgraduates and PhD of physical, chemical, mathematical, biological departments and other Research centers make tests on analytical equipment of NNLOT.
In 2013 more than 5000 samples were tested on high-precision equipment of NNLOT, they were from different organizations of Kazakhstan and foreign countries: Scientific Research Institutes of Al-Farabi KazNU, Institute of Nuclear Physics, Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan State University, and Institutes of Russia.
In 2013 204 works were published, including 30 articles in journals with high impact factor, 48 reports on International scientific conferences, 22 articles in journals recommended by Higher Attestation Commission.
In 2013 we won 4 International projects and more than 20 scientific projects in 5 directions:

HV-1000B microhardness tester (China).

Microhardness tester with automatic turret, high resolution LCD, built-in printer, RS232 interface and other accessories. Device is for measuring microhardness of thin and micro samples, also brittle materials.

Lambda 35 spectrophotometer (Perkin-Elmer, USA).

UV/Vis spectrophotometer with concave holographic screen. It is meant for performing different analytical tests of optical spectrum in UV and visible region, for measuring concentration of different substances in aqueous solution, food, soils and etc.

  • Deuterium and wolfram-halogen lamp with automated switching of light beam;
  • Integrating sphere for observing spectrum of diffuse reflection;
  • Pad for adjustment of incidence angle.

Quanta 200i 3D scanning microscope (FEI Company, USA)

Scanning microscope is modern device with advanced automatic research conduction in nanotechnology. It is used for making pictures with 2,5 nm resolution and for making quantitative and qualitative analysis of nano-size objects.

S3-MICRO small and wide-angle X-ray scattering combined system (HECUS, Austria)

Small and wide-angle X-ray scattering instrument is used for studying of solid materials, gel, macromolecular solutions and thin films. Multifunctional station of sample taking is suitable for studying any nanostructure in different conditions.

DM 6000M Light microscope (Leica, Sweden)

DM 6000M Light microscope is perfectly completed system for research aims – with high resolution digital cameras and software for analysis and saving images.

Integration of probe and light microscopy and spectroscopy, AFM – Raman, NFSOM (Near-field scanning optical microscope) – TERS

Simultaneous AFM and confocal microscopy (Raman, fluorescence) visualization using different lens (up to 100x).
Free rotation of microscope turret with 4 lens with AFM probe close to sample.
Automatic removal of AFM probe (for optical measurements or during use of lens with flange focal distance).
HotSpot – autodetection of TERS-active zone on probe.

«Center of Earth Sciences, Metallurgy and Ore Benefication» joint-stock company ("CESMOB" JSC)

Center of Earth Sciences, Metallurgy and Ore Benefication Joint-Stock Company (CESMOB JSC) was established on July 27, 2007 according to State Order of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 375 from May 10th of 2007, on the basis of the Metallurgy and Ore Benefication Institute founded in 1945. In accordance with the governmental order of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 668 dated July 3, 2008 the Center became a part of National scientific and technological holding Parasat, JSC.

CESMOB JSC is one of the leading research centers in the Republic of Kazakhstan which carries out fundamental and applied researches as well as experimental and technological developments in the field of enrichment and processing of mineral and man-made materials, metallurgy and materials science.

The strategic aim of CESMOB JSC is to become a key element of the national research and technological infrastructure as an integrated research and development center which is capable to solve innovative development tasks of national industry in the metal-bearing raw materials processing and metal science.

The Center’s activities are focused on the creation and development of advanced research and industrial cluster in the field of deep processing of mineral resources, obtaining new materials, ensuring environmental security as well as sustainable development of production and territorial centers following the strategic priorities of Kazakhstan to become one of the 50 most competitive countries in the world.

CESMOB JSC is an accredited research organization (the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 392 dated March 18, 2008). The organization has implemented a certified quality management system for scientific research, research staff training to meet the requirements of ST RK ISO 9001-2009 “Quality Management System” (Certificate of Conformity № KZ 7500195.07.03.05.054 of March 15, 2010, valid until March 15, 2013).

The Center has the laboratory and production facilities, communications, up-to-date equipment to conduct research. There is the National Science Laboratory which includes laboratories of chemical and physical methods of analysis, metal technology as well as support services (mechanical and glass blowing shops, a library, a patent group, an information group etc.). CESMOB JSC has a pilot metallurgical production to test research and technological developments.

The Center publishes “Complex Use of Mineral Resources” scientific and technical journal.

Nowadays 227 employees including 85 researchers 16 of them are doctors of sciences (including 4 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and 47 candidates of sciences work for CESMOB JSC.
